In recent years, there has been a noticeable decline in the academic performance of students in board exams. How do you perceive this trend?

There are several contributing factors to this decline, and one notable factor is the increased use of gadgets and smartphones by students, which has resulted in decreased engagement in their studies. Additionally, the impact of the pandemic cannot be overlooked, as it has disrupted the traditional learning environment and led to a shift towards online education. Another significant aspect to consider is that in recent years, the examinations for Grade 11 have been conducted internally within the students' own schools, which may have inadvertently led to a sense of complacency and reduced motivation to study diligently. These factors collectively have played a role in the observed decrease in student outcomes in board exams. It is crucial to address these issues and implement strategies that foster a more conducive learning environment to improve student performance. This may involve promoting responsible use of technology, providing adequate support and guidance to students during the pandemic, and ensuring rigorous evaluation processes to maintain academic standards. The increased use of technology in our own educational practices has inadvertently contributed to the addiction towards mobile phones among students. While there are benefits to using gadgets for studying, such as access to educational resources and tools, it is important to acknowledge that not all students use them responsibly. Some students effectively utilize technology to enhance their learning experience, while others tend to misuse it, becoming overtly dependent on entertainment or social media platforms. Moreover, the introduction of the grading system has had an impact on students' mindset. The concept of being able to pass regardless of their actual performance and continue studying further subjects, even with low marks, has created a perception that minimal effort is sufficient. This mindset can lead to a lack of motivation and a decline in the quality of studying and academic outcomes. To address these challenges, it is crucial to promote digital literacy and responsible technology use among students. Educators and parents should emphasize the importance of utilizing gadgets for educational purposes and establish guidelines for their proper use. Additionally, the grading system should be accompanied by effective evaluation methods that encourage students to strive for excellence and maintain high academic standards. This could involve setting minimum thresholds for subject proficiency and providing additional support and resources to students who struggle academically, rather than simply allowing them to move forward with subpar performance. By promoting responsible technology use and fostering a culture of academic excellence within the grading system, we can help students strike a balance between utilizing gadgets effectively for learning and avoiding the pitfalls of excessive reliance on mobile phones.

What measures have been implemented to uphold the standard of education in our nation?

We maintain regular communication and engage in active interaction with parents of our students as a means to uphold the quality of education. In addition to keeping parents informed about their child's progress, we also take proactive steps by sending our teachers to visit the homes of students. During these visits, our teachers have meaningful discussions with parents regarding their child's academic strengths and weaknesses. This personal interaction allows us to gain valuable insights into the students' home environment and better understand any challenges they may be facing.

Furthermore, we recognize the importance of providing emotional and psychological support to our students. To address this aspect, we conduct counseling classes where students can freely express their concerns, anxieties, and personal challenges. These counseling sessions create a safe space for students to receive guidance and advice on overcoming their weaknesses and enhancing their overall well-being. By actively involving parents in the educational journey and conducting regular home visits, we foster a strong partnership between the school, students, and parents. This collaboration enables us to address specific areas of improvement for each student, tailor educational approaches to their needs, and create a supportive environment that nurtures their growth and development. The counseling classes further contribute to the holistic development of students, ensuring that their emotional and psychological well-being is prioritized alongside their academic progress.

We have noticed that students continue to pursue their studies in Kathmandu after completing their Secondary Education Examination (SEE). How do you perceive this trend?

It appears that students have a strong inclination to reside in urban areas like Kathmandu, where they can avail themselves of various amenities and facilities. While this desire for an enhanced lifestyle may be a motivating factor, it is important to note that we strive to provide the same quality education as schools in Kathmandu.

It is natural for some students to yearn for new experiences and opportunities that may be more readily available in a metropolitan city like Kathmandu. By studying in Kathmandu, students may have access to a wider range of educational institutions, extracurricular activities, cultural events, and career prospects. This exposure to a diverse environment can foster personal growth, expand their horizons, and broaden their perspectives. However, it is essential to emphasize that our institution is dedicated to delivering a high standard of education that is on par with schools in Kathmandu. We prioritize providing quality teaching, modern educational resources, and a supportive learning environment to ensure that our students receive a well-rounded education. Ultimately, the decision to pursue studies in Kathmandu is a personal choice driven by individual aspirations and preferences. While we strive to create an enriching and stimulating educational environment within our own location, we also acknowledge and support students who wish to explore new opportunities and expand their educational journey in a bustling metropolitan city like Kathmandu.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of higher secondary (plus two) students pursuing their studies outside their hometown?

The decision for higher secondary (plus two) students to study outside their hometown has more disadvantages than advantages. Given their young age, these students are often driven by a desire to indulge in constant enjoyment and recreational activities. Moreover, schools located outside their familiar surroundings may not have a thorough understanding of their personalities and backgrounds, unlike their previous schools. Additionally, students at this stage are still in the process of maturing and may exhibit a certain level of immaturity. One of the main drawbacks of students going out for studies is the potential distraction from their academic pursuits. Being away from the supervision and guidance of their families and familiar educational environment, students may be more prone to engaging in non-academic activities that hinder their focus and commitment to their studies. The lack of parental oversight and the freedom that comes with being away from home can sometimes lead to a neglect of responsibilities and a lack of discipline. Furthermore, schools outside their hometown may not have the same level of familiarity with the students' academic history, strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. This can result in a less personalized educational experience and potentially hamper the student's overall progress and development. The absence of a close-knit relationship between students and teachers that was established over the years in their previous school may also affect the quality of guidance and support they receive. However, it is important to acknowledge that there may be some advantages to students going out for studies as well. It offers them an opportunity to explore new environments, gain exposure to different cultures, and develop a sense of independence and self-reliance. It can broaden their perspectives and help them develop crucial life skills such as adaptability, resilience, and problem-solving. In conclusion, while there may be a few advantages to higher secondary students pursuing their studies outside their hometown, the potential drawbacks, such as increased distractions, limited familiarity from the school, and the immaturity of students, often outweigh the benefits. It is essential for students, parents, and educational institutions to carefully consider and evaluate these factors before making a decision regarding studying away from home during this crucial stage of education.

What factors should be taken into consideration when selecting a course of study and college?

In the present times, students have access to a wide range of counseling services to assist them in their course selection process, which was not as readily available in the past. However, it is crucial to recognize that some students may prioritize glamour or external influences over thoughtful decision-making. Instead, students should focus on making choices that align with their own preferences and goals. When choosing a college and course of study, students should consider several key factors. Firstly, it is important to assess the facilities and infrastructure provided by the college. This includes evaluating the availability of modern classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and other resources necessary for effective learning. Additionally, students should consider the range of courses offered by the college. It is essential to choose a course that aligns with their interests, aptitudes, and career aspirations. Conducting thorough research on the curriculum, course structure, and opportunities for specialization can provide valuable insights into the suitability of a particular program. Another aspect to consider is the college's ranking and reputation. While rankings should not be the sole determinant, they can serve as indicators of the college's overall quality and recognition within the academic community. Exploring reviews, testimonials, and alumni experiences can also provide valuable perspectives on the college's strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, students should take into account their personal preferences and comfort level with the college environment. Factors such as location, campus culture, extracurricular activities, and support services should be considered to ensure a holistic and fulfilling college experience. In summary, while counseling services are readily available to students nowadays, it is crucial for students to prioritize their own preferences, facilities, infrastructure, course offerings, rankings, and personal comfort when making decisions about their college and course of study. By taking these factors into consideration, students can make informed choices that align with their goals and pave the way for a successful educational journey.
