As a former president, I reflect on the qualities expected in the upcoming president of HISSAN Kathmandu. Leading in the capital city, Kathmandu, is a formidable task given its population and responsibilities. Therefore, the selection of the president demands careful consideration.

As a former president, I reflect on the qualities expected in the upcoming president of HISSAN Kathmandu. Leading in the capital city, Kathmandu, is a formidable task given its population and responsibilities. Therefore, the selection of the president demands careful consideration. Past presidents, including myself, are scrutinizing the past and present works of each candidate, evaluating their capacity to lead the organization. While we have several friends possessing leadership qualities, we are on the quest for the best candidate. Sometimes, the faster runner proves to be better than the first runner, and we are aiming to identify a candidate who excels in both aspects. Our objective is to hand over the post to a deserving candidate, surpassing the capabilities of their predecessors. The final decision will be reached through group discussions with the approval of every member. The challenges facing the organization, such as student immigration, changes in the education Act, disputes between private institutes, and the government’s attitude, necessitate a president with foresight, the ability to maintain unity, and effective fund management. The president should possess knowledge on crucial topics, understand the needs of members, and dedicate time to the organization.

The entire education system is at risk, particularly with the migration of students to foreign countries, significantly impacting higher secondary education. The surge in immigration poses challenges for higher education, with the number of universities and colleges increasing despite only 50,000 to 60,000 students enrolling in bachelor programs in Nepal. The release of the new education Act also jeopardizes private school education. The president must navigate these challenges, advocating for rights, maintaining standards, and making necessary improvements to secure investments and the profession as a whole. The central committee aims to complete conventions in all districts and provinces by the end of Poush and Magh, respectively. Districts are responsible for updating and forming new associations, with a policy to include only those who attend district conventions in provincial and central conventions.

HISSAN manages the overall responsibilities of associations for both schools and higher institutes, a unique position not held by other organizations like PABSON and N-PABSON. The institute’s focus has expanded to include secondary-level education since the inclusion of grades 11 and 12 in the secondary level. HISSAN has played significant roles, garnering trust even beyond the education committee. In challenging times like earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic, HISSAN has supported Nepal and managed private sectors effectively. Despite being a small unit, HISSAN has made numerous contributions and possesses the quality to exert pressure on the government for necessary plans and policies. The collaborative efforts with various associations emphasize the commitment to the welfare of private fields and a desire for the improvement of government education, fostering fair competition and the overall advancement of Nepal’s education system.
