Surkhet Campus Education was established in 1991 with the objective of producing trained manpower in education sector for the Government of Nepal in Far and Mid-West region. Initially it was set up in Nepalgunj because of geographical hardship and lack of transportation. Later on in 1995 it was shifted to Surkhet. Since then the campus has been running in Surkhet by proliferating many fold in terms of its size and programs.

The campus focused its attention towards the higher level of education programs i.e. Bachelor and Master level programs. Consequently in 1991 a Bachelor level program was started in the day shift followed by an evening shift program of the same level in 1994. Keeping in mind the demand of students and stakeholders the campus started Master level program (M.Ed.) in 2001 in Education Planning and Management (EPM).

 Now the Campus has been running Master degree Programs in 7 subjects and Bachelor Programs in 13 subjects including science and ICT subjects. From the academic year 2013/014 Campus lunched a 3 year Master degree ODL (Open and Distance Learning) program to fulfill the requirement of faculty members in +2 level schools of the government of Nepal.  This program will be based on semester system. Graduate teachers of secondary school will be eligible to participate. Initially the program will offer three subjects; Nepali education, Health education and Curriculum & Evaluation .This program is being    technically supported by Jamk University, Finland and Faculty of Education, T.U. 

Surkhet Campus, Education has vast infrastructure for teaching learning   and residential    purposes. It has 11 residential buildings, 6 Hostel Buildings, 5 classroom buildings,   1 Library building, 5 administrative buildings including 4 Science and 2 ICT labs and 1 cafeteria. It has all together 13 Bigah (170 Ropani) of land scattered in different 5 places of Birendranagar Municipality. To cope with the pressure of students the Campus has started building a 3 story Exam. The Campus has been equipped with about 70 computers, 5 Multimedia Projectors and many other electronic equipment for ICT friendly classroom. The campus owns a Tata Sumo jeep and a motorbike for official transportation also.
